Curator’s Statement:
The exhibition Applying Influences seeks to illuminate the various facets between functionality and pure expression with pottery. Clay, the material of pottery, has an innate ability to record and preserve the influence of the potter. It documents the physical application of the hand, tools, firing technique, and idea. Whether working within the parameters of utility or personal expression, the maker inevitably creates something influenced by what they look at, experience, or feel. This exhibition brings together various potters depicting the diverse interpretations of the pot.
