Banfill-Locke: 17th Annual Art at Rice Creek Event

Celebrating the 17th year, Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts presents the Art at Rice Creek Festival 2015 on Sunday, September 13 from 10 am to 4 pm. This festival is a coming together of artists in our community and those who love the arts. Taking place in the historic Banfill Tavern Building as well as in beautiful Manomin Park along Rice Creek where it flows into the Mississippi, this festival will feature something for everyone.
The Pavilion stage in the park will feature free entertainment all day, emceed by KFAI radio host Jacquie Maddix (LadyJ):

- Word Sprout Spoken Word Artists 12-12:45 pm
- Paulino Brener presents Paper Boats 1-1:45 pm
- Xibaba: Brazilian Jazz 2-2:45 pm
- Fridley City Old Time Band 3-3:45
Booths will feature everything from fine art photography, to hand made wall tapestries, watercolor paintings and beaded jewelry. Artist Vendors participating in this year’s festival include: Amber McDowell, Angelica Romero Tapestries, Anno Made Knits, Artists del Norte, DeMeglioart, Jacob Haskins and Stacy Gottwaldt, Jeff Thompson, Jessica Shaykett and Rebecca Meszler, Jewelry by Shelley, Joyce VanderWyst, Jules Loft, KAP Custom Woodturning, little ren creations, Michael Egan, Mitchell Cory Nelson, PS Arts, Rogue Stitches, Shawn Leer Photography, The Craftman & Mom, Things by Nicole, Turner and Pooch, and XanXone.
Inside the building, visitors will be invited to participate in an art scavenger hunt delving into the current exhibition Future Paths and A Reinvented Past, featuring art work by Keren Kroul and Susan Hensel.
Visitors can help support the festival and Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts by purchasing a raffle ticket. The first prize is a handmade wall quilt featuring a beautiful pattern and an image of the Banfill-Locke building. Second prize is a 5 year membership to the Center, and third prize is a $50 gift certificate to the center. Tickets are available now at Banfill-Locke and will be available at the festival. And additional raffle of gift certificates and unique items will be available at the event.
Free art making workshops in mandala making, watercolor painting, cartoon drawing, and creative writing will take place throughout the day of the festival.
Community businesses and organizations will also be present, including TEDx Fridley, Anoka Ramsey Community College Writing Programs, City of Fridley, Anoka County Historical Society, BLCA Writers, Nucleus Clinic, Fridley Historical Society, Fridley Community Education, Fridley Women of Today, Lee Carlson Center and Bridgeview, and the Springbrook Nature Center Foundation. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer all your gardening and plant questions.
Food will be provided by Little G’s Pizzeria, Grandpa’s Ice Cream, and the Fridley Lion’s Club.
Parking is available in the north Manomin Park lot and in the surrounding neighborhood; Fridley Community Officers will be on hand to help you find a convenient spot- or ride the Mississippi River Trail and park your bike in the park.
Special needs will be accommodated. Please call in advance if you would like extra assistance in your enjoyment of the festival.
Support for this festival comes from Anoka County, the City of Fridley, and by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Directions: Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts is located 10 minutes north of downtown Minneapolis. Take 694 to East River Road exit. Proceed north approximately 1 mile. The Art Center is on the west side of the road between Mississippi and Osborne.
Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts (BLCA) is a source for the community providing inspiration, enrichment, enjoyment, opportunities and education through the arts. In a cooperative agreement between Anoka County and the Art Center. BLCA operates as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, while Anoka Country retains ownership of the Banfill Tavern Building.
