Call for Entry: Cabinet of Wonder at SMSP

Dear WARM Artists

I would be honored to have you to participate with me in The Cabinet of Wonder, an exhibition in the newest & smallest museum in St. Paul – SMSP – a converted firehose box at the new WORKHORSE Coffee Bar on University & Raymond. (2399 University Ave St Paul, MN 55114 Ph: 651-348-7561)

The Cabinet of Wonder will be a collection of small, but beloved objects gathered from YOU, my wonderful Artist community, that were created, found or gifted – and that remind us of our sense of awe, curiosity and love for this incredible planet. (See photo below of current iteration of The Cabinet -and me at 2 1/2 years old – in a state of wonder!)
OBJECT SIZE/TYPE REQUESTED:  Cabinet sizes are listed here :Cabinet-Compartment-SizesREV,  AND on WORKHORSE website (soon). Art/Objects can be achingly beautiful, wonderfully weird, or even grandly grotesque – whatever INSPIRES YOU. (Objects should NOT have significant monetary value; we can’t guarantee their safety.) Objects can be donated or loaned, but donations are preferred. The Object Intake form is available here:  COW-ObjectIntakeFormREV (It can also be filled out day of the event at WORKHORSE.)
The objects – and their stories (optional) – will be collected at WORKHORSE Coffee Bar. The story – of why you chose your object – will be placed in a book for viewers to enjoy and possibly for future publication. (Stories any length up to 1 page.)
If Aug. 15th is not convenient for you, you can:
1) MAIL your object(s) w/short story (if willing to write one) and attached form to: Jill Waterhouse, 3620 – 15th Avenue South, Mpls, MN 55407
2) DROP OFF your object/story/form at the WORKHORSE during their open hours: 6am-6pm M-F / 7am-5pm Sat & Sun (receptacle provided)
INSTALLATIONS OF THE CABINET: The first installation of the Cabinet will be on Friday, August 28th and I will re-install each week, so objects will be accepted up until September 19th for the SMSP exhibit. (FYI – I hope to continue the project on a much larger scale in the future, so objects can be accepted at any time for these future shows.)
  • SAT, SEPT 12  10 am-1 pm  Opening + Tiny Book Project:
Opening revelers will have the opportunity to make a tiny 8-page book, please bring a scissor if you can.
  • SAT, SEPT 19   5-9 pm   Object Gathering + Tiny Book Project
NOTE: This event is for attendees of Common Field’s national “Hand in Glove” Conference – check this out and consider attending!   Bring a small art/object  – found or made – to gift to the Cabinet of Wonder, enjoy a dinner/drink break at WORKHORSE – and the opportunity to make a tiny book to take home.
  • SUN, SEPT 27   1-4 pm  Tiny Chair Project + Waterhouse Birthday Bash + Exhibit Closing Party!
Come for the cake, stay for the celebration of this wonder-filled project and/or learn how to make a tiny chair from a champagne wire cage! Please bring a needle-nose pliers, if you can.

Thank you so much – in advance! I hope to see you on August 15th – or thereafter – at WORKHORSE.
