On Sunday, June 23, 13 WARM mentors and protégées made the trek to artist Karla Faith’s Blue Horse Farm in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Karla gave a tour of her beautiful 5 acre facility including a 100+ year old timber frame barn, her charming house with its hand painted trompe l’oeil walls, and her studio filled with decades of drawings, paintings, and etchings. Her property is also surrounded by federal prairie land, completing its idyllic setting.
After a fabulous WARM women’s potluck, Golden Paints Working Artist and painter, Bonnie Cutts, gave an insightful demo – with extensive Q & A time – on Golden’s new and familiar products as well as a variety of techniques to use them. (Protegee Susan Gainen incorporated this knowledge almost immediately and emailed the results to all who attended!) Participants at the demo received a healthy sample packet of Golden products to experiment with and a guide book with Golden’s complete full color product line. Bonnie also encouraged participants to go online to Golden’s website which has product information and demonstrations to assist artists in choosing and using Golden products.
After the demo, mentors and protégées had the opportunity to take advantage of the prairie farm setting to take photographs of the farm buildings and its inhabitants (horses, dogs, cats and various wildlife), wander the farm and socialize with fellow mentors and protégées long into the evening.
Karla Faith also invited program participants to consider planning or participating in future day trips, workshops and/or Sunday afternoon coop drawing sessions at the farm. She welcomes all, including those who couldn’t make this initial trip, for a return visit! Contact: 651-247-9100 or www.bluehorsefarm.com
