Society of Minnesota Sculptors 2017 Annual Exhibition “Contours of Spring”

Eligibility and Media
This exhibition is open members of the Society of Minnesota Sculptors who have paid-up dues through December 2017.
All works must be original, of your own creation, and not have been previously displayed at the Arboretum. All three-dimensional works in any medium are eligible. At the Arboretum’s request no installation sculpture will be accepted and most works should be for sale or available through future fabrication. Large floor pieces are encouraged.
Entry Requirements/and Selection
Each Society member may submit up to three (3) original works for exhibition. Mailed submissions should be professional photographs no smaller than 5” x 7” and no larger than 8.5” x 11.” All photographs must include on the back: the title and your name. Acceptance into the show will be limited only by the size of the exhibition space. We anticipate that most, if not all applying sculptors will have at least one piece in the exhibition. Prizes of $300 (First Place), $200 (Second Place), $100 (Third Place), and three Honorable Mentions ribbons will be awarded by the Arboretum Arts program staff/jurors prior to the show opening on Friday, April 14th.
Fees and Application Process
The entry fee is $35 for the first piece and $15 per additional entry (maximum of three entries—$65). This fee is non-refundable and must accompany your entry form. Entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 6th. (Entry form with check, and photographs), (SMS 2017 membership check, if required), should be sent to:

Entries without an entry fee received will not be considered for the exhibition.
All applicants will be notified which piece(s) are accepted by email by Monday, March 20th.
Sales, Commission, and Insurance
Each piece must be labeled with the artist’s name, title of the piece, medium and the retail price (if for sale). The retail price must include the Arboretum commission 35%. Works that are not for sale must come with an insurance value.
As part of the University of Minnesota’s fine arts insurance policy, all artworks will be insured subject to a $1000 deductable. Therefore, the SMS recommends that each artist consider insuring their work from theft. Such insurance will cost approximately $50/year if you choose to insure your work for the first $1000. The Society assumes no liability for theft during the exhibition.
Delivery and Pickup
Delivery must be made to the Arboretum’s Great Hall in the Oswald Visitor Center on Wednesday, April 12th with time to be determined with some evening hours. If an earlier delivery is necessary, there
is some limited secure storage space assigned for early arrivals. After the exhibition, the pickup will be Sunday, April 30th, after the exhibition reception. Anything remaining after the pickup may be subject to a $10/day storage fee.
Invitations and Reception
The Society, upon request, will provide digital postcard artwork for accepted artists to invite friends and customers to the Exhibition. There will be an closing reception on Sunday, April 30th from 3PM to 5PM.
