This exhibit features artwork by the Minneapolis Jewish Artists’ Laboratory, bringing together the works of over 36 artists to explore this year’s theme of Wisdom. Using a wide array of media alongside traditional Jewish text, poetry, songs, stories, and a variety of artistic modalities, the notion of wisdom has taken on new meaning. Unlike a more traditional exhibit, Voices of Wisdom features all kinds of artistic disciplines, including performance art like dance and music, displayed with video and photography. Performance art will be performed live at the closing event on August 28th.
“We have been…challenging ourselves to define and redefine what it means to be wise, who is wise, and identifying the many ways that Wisdom is tightly woven into our Jewish DNA,” said Robyn Awend, Sabes JCC’s Director of Visual Arts and Coordinator of the Minneapolis Artists’ Lab. Together artists of varying artistic media and connections to Judaism explore how the theme of Wisdom is relevant to their work, as individuals and to the community.
